vanessa amorosi

VANESSA AMOROSI

In April 2000, Vanessa’s debut album, THE POWER, was released, and entered the Australian charts with Gold sales at the no.1 position and achieved Platinum status just three weeks later, confirming her position as one of the most incredibly successful artists in Australian history. More than sevently thousand copies of the album were sold in just one month.

This extraordinary album reflects Vanessa’s versatility as a vocalist and songwriter with a selection of R&B, Pop/Dance and Pop ballad tracks and has already reached Quadruple Platinum sales in Australia where it was also the fourth top selling album for the year.
With THE POWER sitting at the top of the album charts and ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY still refusing to leave the singles charts, Vanessa’s third single SHINE was released.  This powerful and inspiring ballad jumped straight into the charts at no. 4 position, went Gold in just two weeks, and Platinum just one month later. SHINE has won the APRA award for being the most played song on Australian radio in 2000 and PPCA award for being the most played song in all media in 2001

THE PRESETS

Kimberley Isaac Moyes was but a young man, small of stature but big of heart, down on his luck, doing the odd performance in a downtown gay bar and eating anchovies from tin cans discarded in the alley behind a local Italian restaurant, putting all his dollar bills in a pillow, with the dream to one day have enough money to buy a Moog synthesiser.

Julian Hamilton was the new bus boy in said food joint, robust and ambitious, taking out the trash and sweating like a malaria ravaged wrestler when he one day chanced upon poor Kim out the back, sucking on those oily little fish like hed never tasted such a delicacy.

These encounters out the back of Luigis Linguini And Pasta Allsorts became regular, and led to the occasional lunch date, when Julian would not only smuggle Kim a fresh can of anchovies, but would even share his own chef-cooked meal.

It was in these early days that Kim and Julian realized their meeting had been fateful, and that one day they would make good on their shared desire to make moody, crisp electronic future pop.

If youve ever wondered what they might play when youre standing there staring at the fork in the road between heaven and hell, this could be it.

JON STEVENS

For over 20 years, Jon Stevens’ remarkable career as a singer, songwriter and performer has seen him achieve so much. This includes ARIA chart-topping success as the front man of legendary Australian bands Noiseworks and INXS, and now, with another band on the rise, The Dead Daisies.

Jons’ musical journey started off with success in his birthplace New Zealand, where he released his number one debut album, with two of the singles also hitting the top spot.

After expanding internationally to record his second album in Los Angeles, Stevens performed alongside Elton John. It was here that Jon met his future manager – who soon after would relocate him to Australia.

Once on Australian shores Stevens wasted no time forming the rock band Noiseworks. Over the next five years the band produced three Top 10 singles and four Australian Top 10 albums.

MARK SEYMOUR

Mark formed Hunters and Collectors in 1980, with a bunch of Uni friends. It was a rollicking eight-piece funk ensemble with industrial percussion, ' bizarre' atonal synthesizer, thundering bass guitar and a brass section that was so demonically loud that it became known as the ' Horns of Contempt '.

In its early form Hunters and Collectors was less like a band, and more like a monstrous 'jam session' loosely tied to melody and words, which Mark provided, when he was audible. At times there were as many as fifty souls on stage as audience members joined the parade. Instruments were frequently stolen. However, all was not chaos. The band became famous for its rhythmic power and very quickly became touted as the ' next big thing' which is an Australian euphemism for a poppy that grows too fast, which Hunters and Collectors truly was
